Cesta do Sofie a späť autobusom nás stála 88 eur. To sme mali zaplatené. Tretí víkend sme boli v mestách Veliko Tarnovo a Gabrovo. Ak by som to mala zhodnotiť, bol to krásny mesiac plný nezabudnuteľných zážitkov a každému by som to odporúčala. Spoznali sme ľudí z rôznych krajín, kedže nás tam bolo spolu asi 25 stážistov.

English version

This summer I took part an internship in Bulgaria in Pleven. It is the seventh most populous city in Bulgaria. I was there with my classmate Ala. We were deciding between a few cities in Bulgaria and finally, we chose Varna. They didn´t accept us hovewer they preferred our request to be together in the same town. We were accepted in the department of general surgery. We spent whole month on this department. We chose the month of July. First day, there were a lot of students and it was a little bit chaotic but later, it was better. Every day, we participated on ward round but we did understand almost nothing. After warding round, our doctor told us what we should to do . Sometimes, we stayed on the department or we could be in operating room watching the operation. We had an opportunity to insert catheters, we were taking blood and we were bandaging postoperative wounds and we were helping with another treatment. The biggest disadvantage was that only a few doctors speak English.

We travelled to Sofia from Bratislava by a bus because it was cheaper than the other means of transport. The price of our journey was 88 €. We changed the bus in Sofia and we travelled to Pleven. Our contact persons were there and they were waiting for us. They shown us our accommodation. We were living in a dormitory. I wanted to be with my classmate in the same room, but we weren´t. It was terrible because our room was kind of old and dirty and cockroaches were there. Our contact personss shown us a hospital and department of general surgery. The first week we had a lunch every day in canteen in our dormitory after our internship and the next couple weeks in the restaurant. It was included in our internship. We were satisfied with our contact persons. They spent with us a lot of their spare time and it was very surprising for us. They had prepared a social program for us every day. For example, we went sightseeing the centre of city, did some sport activities, swam in a pool or we had a dinner together. Food in Bulgaria is cheaper than in Slovakia. After dinner we usually stayed and had a fun. For instance: we were dance, playing bowling or we just hanging out on the terrace or in the hostel and drinking a beer. By the way 2,3 l of beer cost around 1 euro. Our CPs also prepared voluntary program like some trips for us during the weekend. We were on Sunny beach where was the possibility to go to the aquapark in Nessebar. Another weekend we were in Plovdiv where we could have internship too. Plovdiv is really beautiful city where a university is situated. The third weekend we were in Veliko Tarnovo and Gabrovo. Both of this cities are very nice and historical cities.

I had really great time in Bulgaria. It was unforgettable experience and I would recommend it to everyone. We met a lot of foreign students from another medical universities and I am sure that a wonderful time was had by all.
